Every year The Gourmet Food and Wine Show provides Torontonians an unique opportunity to sample wine from different parts of the world under one roof. Held each year in November, the show makes a perfect timing for shoppers in finding that perfect Christmas Gift for the wine lovers or simply stocking up a few for the holidays.
ShopToronto.com's Top Picks and recommendations for 2008:
Red Selection
Patriarche Bourgogne Pinot Noire, France, LCBO# 23903, $15.75 Banrock Station Shiraz, Australia, LCBO# 455014, $11.75 Hardys Bankside Shiraz, Australia, LCBO# 436022, $14.75 Château Haut-Chaigneau 2005, Bordeaux, France, LCBO# 87650 (Vintage), $33.95. Strong full body but not too heavy and can be enjoy by itself. Although the wine is already bottled, this wine is perfectly fine for aging and collectors. ShopToronto.com recommended.
White Selection Banrock Station Sparkling Chardonnay, Australia, LCBO# 534974, $12.60. This wine should not be mistaken as a Champagne. It is simply a white wine, 100% Chardonnay and should be treated as such and pairing it with food you normally would with any other Chardonnay. The bubbles certainly add a unique and welcoming dimension to the body. ShopToronto.com recommended. Franciscan Estates Napa Valley Chardonnay, California, LCBO# 496125, $24.75. A Chardonnay with a very unique nutty favour while adding character to the wine itself. INOX Chardonnay VQA, Ontario, LCBO# 594200, $12.75. Smooth body with an aromas of citrus and ripe peach. Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler Urziger Goldwingert Riesling Spatlese Qmp 2006, Germany, LCBO# 71142, $32.75. A very smooth, sweet, and well balanced Rielsing that gives the impression of a late harvest and easily be mistaken as an Icewine. This makes a perfect desserts, fruit, or cheese pairing and can certainly enjoy on its own without the overly powering characteristic of Icewine. ShopToronto.com's favourite.
All wines mentioned are available at LCBO (www.lcbo.com) or LCBO Vintages (www.vintages.com). For more information about the show, please visit www.foodandwineexpo.ca
