Easy to use. The 2430 is simple. It is a truly plug-n-play ready via a USB connection. Plug the unit to your PC via any USB connection and it will prompt you to run the P-Touch Editor Lite software. The built-in software will run on your PC without installing any software and provide a basic function to create label for every day needs.
P-Touch Editor Lite is powerful. Runs on Windows 2000, XP, and Vista, the software can print labels in vertical and horizontal format and in different sizes, printing multi-line and have the ability to include graphics. You can create a specific label layout and save it for future use. The Lite software utilize fonts installed on your computer and if you have bar-code font installed on your system, it can print bar-code. For more advance function and other bar code printing, you can install the supplied P-Touch Editor software. The P-Touch Editor Lite also has a screen capture utility built-in.
Sharp and clear printing. Printing letters and numbers is sharp and clean. For bar code, we created a Data Matrix bar code using an online application, then use the P-Touch Editor Lite screen capture to copy the image and printed on the 1/2" label. It printed properly and the bar code scanner was able to read the bar code without error.
Portable. At 2.6"(W) x 7.4"(D) x 4.4"(H) and 1.3lb, the unit is small enough to be carried around easily. With it ability running on a 6-AA batteries, this is a perfect mate for your notebook or netbook computer on the road.
Durable. We don't normally perform drop test but we did accidentally dropped the unit from a 4ft height straight down on a wood floor. It survived the drop and continue to print.
Multi-role and Multi-function. Prints label from 3mm to 24mm wide (almost 1 inch wide). For home, fantastic for labeling all sorts of things. For office and warehouse, the availibity of extra strenght adhesive labels, security labels and bar code printing makes asset tagging very easy. Flexible ID labels make labeling wiring with little efforts and it can also prints on Iron on fabric label.
The only thing we wish it has is Mac friendly. Both the Editor Lite and Editor software do not have a Mac version.
The Brother PT-2430 carries a suggested retail of $129.99. ShopToronto.com recommended.
