 Do you have the proper hands free device for your car? Starting October 26, it would be illegal to use hand-held cell phones, GPS devices and other electronic devices while driving in Ontario. Bill 118 was passed unanimously earlier this year in the Ontario legislature joining hundreds of cities globally in banning the use of such devices while driving.
The new laws mean drivers who text, email, dial, or chat using a prohibited hand-held device could receive a fine of up to $500. Bill 118 also prohibits viewing on any display screen that are not related to driving task.
Drivers will be allow to use a cell phone only with an earpiece, headset, or Bluetooth device using voice dialing and drivers will not be allow to handheld or touch the cell phone unit while driving. GPS device can be used as long as it is mounted on the dashboard. Viewing laptops or DVD players screen will be prohibited.
