20090929-fujitsuFujitsu announced that it has developed a way for golfers to study their swing by using a mobile phone clipped to the waist.  The Fujitsu ETGA Swing Lesson is an application for cellphones which is capable of analyzing golf swings using accelerator monitors and other sensors installed on the phones.

The rotation of the hips and other body movements are measured in three dimensions, with the data fed into a 3-D motion analyzer.  Diagnoses and advice are given under the guidance of professional golfer Tadashi Ezure. Users can also save prior swings and compare shots to previous bests in a full-featured swing-diagnosis program to improve future game.

The sensors technology will be featured in upcoming models offered by NTT DoCoMo in Japan with the application to be free of charge. Fujitsu co-developed the technology with Hosei University professor Kajiro Watanabe.
